Khutze Inlet used to be a known spot for trophy hunting Grizzly Bears, complete with a small hunting cabin. The emergence of ecotourism and activism in the Great Bear Rainforest put an end to the hunting, but the behaviour of the Grizzlies took years to change. For a long time, a bear sighting in this estuary was merely its behind as it booked it out of sight. But gradually the threat of hunting faded from the bears' memory, and it is now a place where humans can watch the peaceful activities of the bears as they stroll through the estuary.
